Recent Improvements

Sometime in 2009, the Holga design was improved slightly in the factory. The new Holgas look more or less the same from the outside, but inside there have been several key improvements.

Working apertures

The first, and perhaps most significant, improvement is that the Holga now comes with 2 distinct apertures. These are; f/13 when set to cloudy, and f/20 when set to sunny. This is a 1 +1/3 stop difference, which may not sound much, but it just makes your Holga a little bit more flexible. The main advantage to this improvement is that it now makes custom apertures much easier.

Wider shutter arm

The shutter arm has been made much wider. This should stop the corner double exposure effect exhibited by older Holgas.

Central tripod socket

The tripod socket has been moved to make it more central. This should reduce parallax problems when shooting panoramas with a tripod.

Leak holes filled in

The final improvement is a subtle one, and only really affects 120N/120GN users. Previously, when shooting without a mask in a 120N/120GN, you would get two red light leaks at the top of your pictures. This was due to stray light entering the camera through two holes at the top of the camera. These two holes are where the battery connectors of built in flash models are wired to the flash. As a result they serve no purpose for hot shoe models.
